Knowing which seeds to buy online for growing Cannabis

Genetics play a significant role in the yield, taste, smell, and overall growing traits of you plant(s).

Seed selection is therefore a very crucial part of the growing process as it will heavily influence the final outcome of your product. Every grower will have their own preferences when it comes to strains. Some may prefer a powerful, cerebral sativa that leaves them feeling energized and motivated. Others may want to grow a strain that is better for the pm hours. A powerful indica genetic after a few tokes will put you right to sleep.

Biggest take away from this article is knowing the difference between feminized seeds, auto-flower seeds, and male seeds.

Finding seeds from a reputable source can be a hard task. A majority of the experienced growers start businesses called “seed Banks”. A seed bank is just a business that offers a variety of cannabis seeds that have a high germination rate. Why is it important to have high germination rates, you may ask? Well it is important that you are buying seeds from a source that has a high germination rate because at the end of the day you want your seeds to pop. If your seeds don’t pop during germination, you will not be growing any cannabis.

Feminized Seeds

Another important factor when finding the right genetics is what type of cannabis seeds you ware buying. The most successful germination rates that lead to beautiful cannabis plants with flower yielding comes from “feminized” seeds.

Feminized cannabis seeds only produced female plants. This greatly reduces guesswork and frustration to a minimum. There won’t be any male plants to be concerned about, and you will be certain of an excellent harvest if you do your part of the growing process correctly so that the plants can do their part well.

While it’s basically not possible to determine the sex of a seed from a random bag of seeds, a practice known as feminizing is becoming quite popular. Feminized seeds are selectively bred to produce female plants, however, some growers do worry about some feminized seeds turning into hermaphrodites.

AutoFlower Seeds

Another option for growing cannabis is growing with “auto flowering seeds”. Auto flowering seeds take the worry about light cycles out of the cannabis growing process. The good thing about auto flowering strains is that they significantly reduce the time from seed to harvest. They can grow indoor as well as outdoor, and can produce great harvests even for areas that have short summers. Growing with auto flower seeds is a great first step for building confidence in a early stage grower.

Male Seeds

Lastly, male seeds. The only true way to tell the plant’s gender is to plant some seeds, then wait. After a period of several weeks, it will begin to pre-flower (as shown in the picture below). One of the first signs your cannabis plant is female is the appearance of pistillates that are wispy and generally white in color.
